A firmware upgrade should only be carried out over a wired connection between your computer and the router. Do not power off the router at any time during the firmware upgrade procedure, as this may damage the unit.

  1. Launch the browser that you use to go online.
    Main Desktop Browsers.
  2. Navigate to https://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DAP-1650. This will bring you to the D-link support website for your device.

  3. Select Downloads.

  4. Select the latest firmware download.

  5. When the download finishes select show in folder.

  6. Right-click your download and select extract all.

  7. Leave the window open or make note of the extracted folder location. You'll need it later.

  8. Launch the browser that you use to go online again.

  9. Navigate to https://dlinkap.local and sign in with the default login credentials of the range extender.

    The default password is blank. The default username is Admin.

  10. Click Maintenance.

  11. Select Firmware on the left.

  12. Select Browse under Firmware Upgrade.

  13. A new window will open and you'll be able to navigate to and select the BIN file you downloaded and extracted earlier.

  14. Click Open. The firmware will begin to upgrade.

  15. A confirmation window will appear. Click Continue.
  16. The firmware is now upgraded.

  10. Select Browse under Firmware Upgrade.
