How to Set Up an Amazon Fire TV

1 Credentials

In order to connect to a wireless network, you must have the required credentials. These are:
  • Wireless Network Name (SSID)
  • Wireless Network Key (Password)

Finding Network Credentials

Most wireless routers or gateways have a label with the default credentials. If the credentials aren't there, check the documentation that came with your device.

If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) installed the wireless router or gateway, they might have left you a setup sheet which may have the credentials.

In order to setup your Fire TV, you will need to have your Amazon username and password available.

You can visit https://www.amazon.com/ on your computer, to be sure you're able to sign in.

While it is possible to setup a new Amazon account on your Fire TV directly, it is recommended to go through that process on your computer or tablet before going through this setup. There are a lot of screens to go through, and with only a 4-direction remote, it is incredibly slow and very easy to make mistakes.

  1. Push firmly in the center back of your remote, and then slide up.

  2. Line up the + and - symbols on your batteries, and install them into the remote.

  3. Close the battery cover on your remote once done.
  1. Connect the HDMI cable from your Amazon Fire TV to one of the HDMI ports on your television.

  2. Connect the power cable to the back of your Amazon Fire TV.

  3. Connect your power cable to the wall.

  4. You should see the Fire TV logo, followed by the Fire TV asking you to sign into Wi-Fi.

  1. Select your network name from the list.

  2. Type in your network password.

  3. Your Fire TV will let you know when it connects successfully.

  1. Your Fire TV will automatically check for and download any updates available.

It is important you allow this process to finish. Do not turn off or unplug your Amazon Fire TV, your modem, or your router during these updates.

  1. You'll be asked if you want to register your existing Amazon account, or create an account. Select Register to use your existing account.

  2. Enter the E-Mail address you used for your Amazon account.

  4. A video will play, welcoming you to the Amazon Fire TV, and showing you some of the features of your new streaming player.

Use your TV's remote to make sure that your TV input channel or source is set to the correct HDMI port.
