How to Factory Reset a Comcast Xfinity X1 Remote

Introduction

If all else fails when trying to troubleshoot your Comcast Xfinity X1 Remote, you can factory reset it.
Factory resetting your remote will return it to the state it was in right out of the box. All of your settings and your pairings will need to be re-programmed.

To get started, we need to determine whether or not your remote control has a setup button.

Remotes with Setup Buttons

XR11, XR5 Remote

1 Factory Reset a Comcast Xfinity X1 Remote

Resetting your remote back to factory defaults will erase all pairing or programming that was previously performed. Your remote will need to be re-paired or re-programmed in order to control any non-Xfinity equipment it was previously controlling.

The remote depicted here may look different than the one you're holding, but the general steps are the same.

Factory Reset a Remote With the Setup Button
  1. Press and hold the Setup button.
    Setup button
  2. The LED on the remote will change from red to green.
    Green LED
  3. Press 9-8-1.
    Number pad
  4. The LED will blink green twice to indicate that the remote was reset.

  1. Press and hold the A button and the D button.
    A and D button
  2. The LED will turn from red to green.
    Green LED
  3. Press 9-8-1.
