Things you need before you start:

  • A USB-certified cable that has a micro-USB connector on one end and a full-size USB connector on the other.

Steps:

  1. Plug the other end into the Xbox One console.

The controller should be connected to your Xbox One console and ready to use.

Things you need before you start:

  • Insert AA batteries or rechargeable batteries from Xbox One play & charge kit into the controller.

To connect wireless controller to your Xbox One:

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button on the controller to power on.

  2. Press the Connect button on the console.
  3. For Xbox One S and X, the connect button is in the front, below the power button.

  4. For original Xbox One, the connect button is located on the left side.

  5. Press and hold the connect button on the controller, until the controller’s Xbox button quickly flashes. Flashing means it’s searching for your console.

  6. The light will stay solid once it is connected to the console.
  7. Repeat the procedure for every controller you want to add. You can connect up to eight wireless controllers to your console.

Xbox One Chatpad

  • Xbox One Chatpad is a small keyboard connected to your controller to send messages to friends, redeem codes, and search apps and the web. Plus, when you attach a headset, you can chat while you play.

What you need before you start:

  • Update your console to the most recent Xbox One operating system. Chatpad requires your console to have a November 2015 or later update.

Check for a system update.

  1. Press the Xbox button in the center of the Xbox One controller to open the guide.
  2. Select System then Settings.
  3. Select System then Console info.
If there’s an update available, it will be listed at the bottom of the first column in the second button location. If not, you'll see "No update available".

Connect chatpad to your controller.

  1. Power on your Xbox One controller by pressing the Xbox Button on your controller.

  2. Connect the chatpad into the controller.
  3. Make sure chatpad connector and controller accessory port are align.

  4. Gently insert the chatpad to the controller.
  5. Ensure that everything fits properly. If the chatpad doesn't easily fit, try gently rocking it back and forth until it slips into place.
  6. The Orange LED light will blink indicating that its connected and requires an update.

Update your Controller

  1. Press the Xbox Button to open the guide.

  2. Select System then Kinect & devices then Devices & accessories.
  3. Select the controller you want to update.
  4. Select Device info then Firmware version box, then Continue.

Your chatpad is ready to use.
  • Headsets can only be connected to the Xbox One wireless controller. They cannot be connected to third-party wired controllers.
  • Xbox One console does not support Bluetooth functionality. Headsets cannot connect to the console using Bluetooth.
  • If you have an Xbox One wireless controller with a 3.5-mm port, you can connect directly a headset with a standard 3.5-mm jack to the controller.

  • If you have a chatpad connected to your controller, you may connect your 3.5-mm jack headset to the chatpad instead.
