How to Play Netflix on a TV

This guide will walk you through setting up Netflix to be watched on your Smart TV. We'll explain how to install the app on your device and start watching.

To get started we need to know what device you're using with your TV.

Netflix works with most modern TV manufacturers to make sure their streaming service is available to everyone. If you have an up to date Smart TV that can handle apps, Netflix will be available.

Your remote might even have a Netflix button!

Navigate to your television's app page and select Netflix. You will need to log in and set it up if you have never done so.

If you have no app page or can't find Netflix, update your television's software. If your television can have apps, it can have Netflix, but you might need to download it.

The following is an example of how to install an app for your television. The exact steps may be a bit different on your TV and Netflix may already be installed. 

  1. Press the Home or Menu button from your remote.
  2. Select Apps.

  3. Search for the app you want to install by selecting Magnifying glass icon.

  4. Type Netflix. You may have an option to select a suggested keyword.

  5. Select Netflix and wait for it to download.

  6. Select Netflix from your App Menu.

  1. Navigate to your device's app menu.
  2. Select Netflix.

Games installed from the PlayStation Store will require approximately twice the space to install than listed. This is to allow the game to download and then extract to your hard drive. Once the game is installed the downloaded file is then removed.

  1. Go to PlayStation Network. You should see the Netflix App ready to be downloaded. Select Netflix.

  3. Once Netflix is installed, you may launch the app and then sign in.
  1. Navigate to your device's app menu.
  2. Select Netflix.

  3. Select Search or one of the suggested titles to begin viewing Netflix.

  1. Open the Playstation Store.

  2. Search for "Netflix" on the PlayStation Store.
  3. Select Download.

  4. Return to the main PlayStation hub.
  5. Select TV and Video.

  6. Select Netflix from the content area, then choose Start.
  7. Sign in when prompted.

  3. Browse or search for Netflix.
  4. Select Download on the overview page.

  5. Select Confirm Purchase to download and install the app.
  6. Wait for Netflix to finish downloading.
  1. From the Home screen, go to the Store by scrolling to the right by pressing the RB button on the
    controller.

  6. Launch the app and then sign-in.

Currently there is no Netflix compatibility for the Nintendo Switch. We will update this guide if and when this changes.

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon and tap Open.

  2. In the Nintendo eShop, select the search box in the upper-right corner of the GamePad.

  3. Search for Netflix.
  4. Select Netflix.
  5. Select Download.

  1. Launch the Netflix app on your Android or Apple mobile device, or visit the Netflix website from your Chrome browser.

  2. Once you're signed in, select the Cast Netflix Icon from the upper right or lower right side of the screen.

  3. Select your Chromecast from the list of available devices to launch the Netflix app on your TV.

  4. Select a TV show or movie to watch and press Play.
  5. Your Chromecast is now connected to your Netflix account.

  2. Push Left < on your remote, select Streaming Channels.

  3. Select Search Channels.

  4. Search for Netflix, then push Right > on your remote.

  5. Select Netflix.

  6. Select Add channel.

  7. A brief message will appear, letting you know Netflix is added to the end of your home screen, and you can move it using the Option * menu. Select OK.

  1. Navigate to your device's app menu.
  2. Select Netflix.

  3. Tap Install to download the app.

  4. If you purchased the app before, use the Purchased icon instead.
  1. Using your remote, from the main Fire TV menu go to Apps.

  2. Select Netflix in featured apps. If you don't see it, select Search.
