How to Play Music Sony BDVE3100 Blu-ray Home Theater

Introduction

Sony Home Theater Systems allow you to enjoy music from a multitude of sources such as connected devices or included features. This guide will show you how to play or stream music and audio on your Sony Home Theater Systems.

1 Menu Navigation

The menu navigation controls on the Remote are as follows:

  • Enter - Activate the currently selected item or confirm a setting

The menu navigation controls on the Remote are as follows:

  • Home - Press to bring up the home screen

  • Enter - Activate the currently selected item or confirm a setting
  • Return - Return to the previous menu
  1. Press the Eject button on the player to open the tray.

  2. Place the disc into the tray with the label facing up.

  3. Press the Eject button on the device to close the tray.
  4. The content on the disc should start playing automatically.
  5. If the playback doesn't start automatically you have to start the playback manually.

You can play audio from:

Disc symbol. An inserted disc
USB device symbol. A connected USB device
Network device symbol. A networked PC and/or storage device. Please refer to the devices documentation to learn how to connect it to the home network.

To play media:

  1. On the home screen, scroll left or right to cycle through the menu icons. The Photos, Music and Video categories will be where playable media can be found.

  2. Within each category, scroll up or down to select the symbol of the media that you want to play content from.

  3. Browse through the content and choose what you would like to play.

Music playback controls on the Remote are as follows:

Button Function
Play symbol. Starts playback
Pause symbol. Pauses playback
Stop symbol. Stops playback
Search symbol. Searches backward and forward. Search speed changes with every button press
Skip symbol. Skip to the beginning or previous track and to the next track
  1. Open the protective USB cover, if your Blu-ray player has one.

  2. Connect your USB device into the player.

An internet connection is required to stream with these apps. App availability may change over time.

Sony Blu-ray players come with a few pre-installed apps that allow you to stream video and audio.

  1. You can select any of the built-in apps on the home screen from the Photos, Music or Video categories. Navigate the categories horizontally and the apps vertically.Blu-ray menu with categories highlighted.
  2. Once you've opened an app, you can browse through the content and choose what you want to play.

  3. Another way to access the apps is by launching the Sony Entertainment Network from the SEN Home shortcut.

  4. This has a tile based layout if you prefer it over the home screens layout.

An internet connection is required to stream with these apps. App availability may change over time.

Certain Sony Blu-ray players come with the Opera TV Store pre-installed which gives you access to web apps that allow you to stream video and audio.
  1. You can access the Opera TV Store from the Network menu on the home screen.

  2. Scroll left and right through the categories at the top then go down and select your desired app.

  3. Then select Open to launch the app.

  1. Press the Function button repeatedly on the remote control until FM displays on the front of the home theater unit.

  2. Use the radio controls to tune to the desired station:

      • Manual Tuning: Press the Tuning + or Tuning - button repeatedly to tune in to a higher or lower frequency.
      • Automatic Tuning: Press and hold the Tuning + or Tuning - button until the auto scanning starts.
      • Preset Tuning: Press the Preset + or Preset - button to select a preset station.

  3. To preset a station press the Options button on a selected station during the manual or automatic tuning methods, then select Preset Memory from the menu. Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow buttons to choose the preset number you want and press Enter.

This home theater system can be used as both a Bluetooth receiver or Bluetooth transmitter.

  • When paired as a receiver, audio can be streamed to the system from a transmitter.

  • When paired as a transmitter, audio can be streamed from the system to a receiver and the system also acts as a controller.

Maximum operating distance is 33 feet.

  1. Press the Bluetooth button on the remote control.

  3. Using the up and down arrows select Device List then press Enter.
  4. Using the up and down arrows select the Bluetooth device from the list then press Enter.
  5. You can initiate the playback on the home theater unit or its remote.

Now that your device is outputting its audio via Bluetooth, media playback can take place normally. All audio that is played will now be played through the connected Bluetooth device instead of the built-in speakers. Common playback options can be found below.

  • Groove Music is a music player app that was introduced by Windows 10 and its primary role is playing music stored locally on our devices. The Groove Music app is useful for many: it is one of the best universal Windows apps, and with it, you can play your locally stored mp3 library, or even listen to the songs you have stored in your OneDrive.

  • Windows Media Player 12 is a common media player option built into Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 for playing music and video files. Windows Media Player has the ability to play music, rip music from and copy music to compact discs, burn discs in audio CD format, or as data discs with playlists such as an MP3 CD.

  • Spotify is like a jukebox you only need to feed once, or a radio that plays what you want in between ads. Spotify’s music library contains everything from mainstream pop hits to obscure death metal classics.

  • iTunes is a media player made by Apple that is used for playing digital music or video files. iTunes is also used to purchase digital music files or subscribe to podcasts through Apple's iTunes Music Store.

  • VLC Media Player is a free and open source media player. VLC is a portable multimedia player, encoder, and streamer supporting many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

Now that your device is outputting its audio via Bluetooth, media playback can take place normally. All audio that is played will now be played through the connected Bluetooth device instead of the built-in speakers. Common playback options can be found below.

  • iTunes is the default music playback software built into the Apple operating system and is standard on all Apple Mac computers used for playing digital music or video files. iTunes is also used to purchase digital music files or subscribe to podcasts through Apple's iTunes Music Store.
