1 Run the Recording Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Search Troubleshoot.

  3. Scroll down and select Recording Audio.

2 Restart Your PC

Before you restart or shut down your PC, make sure to save all necessary work to prevent data loss.
  1. Select the Start menu, then select Power.

Set Your Default Mic

  1. Right-click the Speaker icon.

  2. Select Open Sound Settings.

  3. Make sure the microphone you're using is the correct one listed.

Set Up Your Microphone

  1. Select the Start Menu.

  2. Type "Set Up Mic" in the search bar.

  3. You’ll be prompted to read a sentence for the recognition software to learn your voice.

  4. Once done, your mic will be set up.
  1. Right-click the Speaker icon.

  2. Select Open Sound Settings.

  3. Under Input, select Device Properties.

  4. Adjust the levels on the microphone to make sure they're working properly.

  1. Search Device Manager.

  3. Select the small arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers to expand this section, and see the devices in them.

  4. Double click one of the devices under one of these headings to show its properties. Select Driver.

  5. Select Update Driver.

  6. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

  7. Windows will automatically locate any updated drivers available.

  8. If any updated drivers are available, you'll be offered the chance to install them. Once installed, or if none are available, close the driver updater for this device.

  9. Repeat these steps til you've made sure all Sound, video and game controller devices are up-to-date.
