Types of issues this guide will tackle:

  1. Check the HDMI cable ends and device ports and remove any foreign objects.
  2. Check for cable damage. If it is damaged then it should be replaced.
  3. Securely and firmly reconnect the HDMI cable between your devices.
  4. Try plugging the HDMI cable ends into a different port on each device if possible.
  5. Try using a different high-speed HDMI cable. Some cables are higher quality than others, a low-quality cable may impact your sound and video signal.
Here are the steps on how to change output on PlayStation 4:
  1. Select Settings.

  2. Scroll down and select Sound and Screen.

  3. Put a checkmark next to System Music if you wish to enable the PlayStation ambient music.

  4. Put a checkmark next to Key Tone if you want tones to play with each controller key press.

  5. Select Audio Output Settings.

  6. Confirm that the Primary Output Port is set correctly.
    • HDMI OUT - This is the default setting.
    • DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) - Use if you are using optical out to a home theatre system (Dolby Digital 5.1ch, DTS 5.1ch and AAC)

  7. Confirm the Audio Format (Priority) is set correctly
    • Linear PCM - Default setting
    • Bitstream (Dolby) - Use for Dolby Digital 5.1ch
    • Bitstream (DTS) - Use for DTS 5.1ch

  8. Return to the main menu when done.
Here are the steps on how to adjust controller sound settings on PlayStation 4:
  1. Hold the PS button on your controller to open the Quick Menu.
  2. Go to Sound/Devices.
  3. Select Volume Control (Speaker for Controller) and adjust the controller speaker volume.

  4. If you have headphones/microphone plugged in:
    • Select Volume Control (Headphones) and adjust the level to your liking.

    • Set Output to Headphones to either All Audio or Chat Audio.

    • Select Adjust Microphone Level and raise or lower the gain on the microphone so your friends can hear you better.
