This guide will take you through some troubleshooting steps to fix basic issues you may encounter with the Vizio SmartCast app, such as the app not launching or not working as intended on your phone or tablet.

Before You Begin:

The Vizio SmartCast app can manage a variety of Vizio devices such as: TVs/displays, soundbars and wireless speakers. Each device is powered up differently. Before troubleshooting the app, make sure you turn your Vizio device off and then back on.

To continue, we need to know what Operating System your smartphone or tablet has.

The way to show all running apps on an iOS device varies with the model you have:

  • Older iOS devices, up to the iPhone X, still come equipped with a circular home button beneath the screen.
  • Newer iOS devices, beginning with the iPhone X, no longer come equipped with the circular home button beneath the screen.

On iOS Devices with a Home Button

  1. Double-press the Home button quickly.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause slightly in the middle of the screen.

  1. You will now see a list of apps that are currently open. Swipe up on any of the apps to close them.

Powering off an iPhone.

  1. Hold down the lock / power button.
  2. Slide to power off when prompted.
  3. Wait until the phone is off.
  4. Hold down the lock / power button until you see the Apple logo.

  3. Ensure that the Bluetooth toggle is in the On position.

  1. Open the Vizio SmartCast App on your device.

  2. Tap the Devices page, tap the  Settings icon.

  4. Find your home Wi-Fi network.

  5. Tap on it and if asked enter your password.

  3. Review the Network Name (SSID) to ensure you are connected to the same network as your other device.

  1. When an update is available the App Store will show a red circle next to it. Open the App Store.

  2. Choose Updates at the bottom, then choose Update All on the top-right.

  1. On the main screen of your iOS device, look for the VIZIO SmartCast icon.

  2. Tap on hold the icon until an X shows up on its top left corner. Tap on the X.

  3. You will be asked whether you want to delete the app. Tap on Delete to confirm.

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Select Search in the bottom right corner.

  3. Type in "Vizio SmartCast", and select Vizio SmartCast from the list.

  4. Select Get for Vizio SmartCast.

  5. Select Open.

  1. Select the Menu in the top left corner.

  2. Scroll down in the menu, and select Setup a new Device.

  3. The App may request extra permissions for location at this point. If it does, select Allow.

  4. If you wish, you can watch a short video detailing the next steps. When you are ready, select Get Started.

  5. Select your language, then select Next. English is at the top.

  6. Your mobile device will first attempt to locate your Vizio device via Bluetooth. Hold your mobile device near your Vizio device for the best chance of success.

  7. If your mobile device is able to find your Vizio device, pairing will take place automatically. If the app cannot locate it, select Skip at the bottom.

  8. The app will now attempt to locate your Vizio device using Wi-Fi instead.

  9. Once found, enter a name for your Vizio device, then select Next.

  10. You may be asked a few more questions to complete the setup of your Vizio device. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup process.
  1. Tap Recent Apps at the bottom of the screen.

    The Recent Apps button may be located on either the bottom left or bottom right as either an onscreen button or a physical button. If you're unsure which button it is, please refer to the user manual of your android device.

  2. Either tap the X or swipe to the side to close an app.

  1. Hold down the power button on your Android device.

    Depending on the manufacturer and model of Android device you have, the location of the power button will vary.
  2. Select Power Off.

    If the menu does not pop up, continue to hold the power button, and your Android device will shut off.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.

  4. Push and hold the Power button for a few moments, and your Android device will start back up.

  1. Open the Vizio SmartCast App on your device.

  4. Find your home Wi-Fi network.

  5. Tap on it and if asked enter your password.

  3. Review the Network Name (SSID) to ensure you are connected to the same network as your other device.

  1. Open the Play Store.

  2. At the top, choose the three bars on the left of the search line.

  4. Choose Update All.

  1. On your Android device, tap on the Apps icon on the main screen.

  2. Look for the SmartCast Mobile app.

  3. Tap and drag the app icon over the Uninstall option located at the top of the screen and then let go of the icon.

  4. You will be asked whether you want to uninstall the app. Tap on OK to confirm.

Install Process

  1. Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.
    Google Play Store.
  2. Select the search bar at the top.
