How to Fix Basic Issues with an Apple TV

Before We Begin:
  • You'll need your Apple TV's remote control.
Apple TV 4K or 4th generation

1 Restart

Your Apple TV does not have a power button. There are three methods for restarting it:

Restart via Settings

  1. Select Settings.
    Apple TV home screen.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select Restart.

Restart via the Remote

  1. Hold down the TV and Menu buttons.

  2. Let go when the light on your device flashes.

Restart via Power Cycle

  1. Unplug the power from the Apple TV.

  3. Plug the power back in to the Apple TV.

2 Check TV Input Channel or Source

Use your TV's remote to make sure that your TV input channel or source is set to the correct HDMI port.

3 Test

Try watching a channel, movie, or show with your Apple TV.
