How to Fix a Fire TV Stick That Isn't Responding

  1. Make sure the TV is plugged into a working power outlet. Bypass any power strips for troubleshooting purposes.

Use your TV's remote to make sure that your TV input channel or source is set to the correct HDMI port.

  1. Press the Rewind and Up buttons on your Fire TV remote at the same time for five seconds.

  2. The system will cycle through available output resolutions, pausing at each resolution for 10 seconds. If you see the correct resolution on-screen, select Use Current Resolution.

Restarting your Fire TV depends on the type of device you have:

For a Fire TV Set-Top Box or Stick you can do the following:

  1. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons at the same time for about five seconds.

  2. Or, From the main screen of your Fire TV, go to Settings.

  3. Then go to Device.

  4. And choose Restart. Confirm your decision by selecting Restart.

  5. Alternatively, you can unplug the power cord from the device, wait 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

For a Fire TV Edition Smart TV you can do the following:

  1. Press the Power button on the remote, wait for 10 seconds and then press it again.

  2. Alternatively, you can unplug the power cord from the outlet, wait 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Make sure of the following:

  1. You are using the power adapter provided with your Fire TV Stick.
  2. The smaller end of the power cord is securely inserted into the side of the Stick itself.

  3. The other end of the power cord is securely inserted into the side of the power adapter and the adapter is properly plugged into a working power outlet.

  1. Make sure the Fire TV Stick is securely inserted into the HDMI port of your TV or display. You may wish to unplug and plug it back in to reseat the device.

  2. If the rear layout of your display doesn't allow proper connectivity, make sure you use the HDMI extender cord provided with the Fire TV Stick.

  3. If you're using an HDMI hub or splitter, unplug the Fire TV Stick from it and plug it directly into your TV or display.

  4. Try switching to a different HDMI port on your TV and set the TV to the corresponding input channel. It may help to temporarily unplug other devices connected to the other HDMI ports.

  5. If your Fire TV Stick is plugged into an AV Receiver or soundbar, try a different port similar to the suggestion above. If that does not work, try plugging it directly into your TV to test.
