Introduction

For every listener, having speakers that produce great sounding audio for our ears is the ultimate goal of any sound system. However, certain variables can make achieving the best sounding audio a bit challenging. Some listeners prefer heavier bass, others prefer a higher amount of treble for better clarity. The size and construction of the room you're listening in will create its own unique acoustic environment as well. All of these audio preferences also change a bit depending on the genre of music you prefer as a listener.

With all these variables in mind, adjusting the EQ settings of your speakers is a bit more important than you may have originally thought. For Sonos speakers, adjusting EQ levels is quite easy, as it can be done remotely by using the Sonos app. This allows you to make adjustments from your favorite listening position.

As an added bonus, if you're using the Sonos app from an iOS device, your Sonos speakers can automatically adjust EQ settings using the Trueplay feature.

In this guide, we'll demonstrate how to adjust EQ settings for your Sonos speakers, and make use of the Trueplay feature.

Trueplay is only available for iOS devices using the Sonos app.

Before You Begin:
You must have the Sonos App installed.

2 Use Sonos Trueplay to Automatically EQ a Room

If you are using the Sonos app from an iOS device, you have access to a feature Sonos calls Trueplay, which is an alternative and automatic way to adjust speaker EQ settings. Using the microphone of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, the app will determine how things sound from its location. It will then adjust the EQ settings of a room's speakers in an attempt to achieve the best sound for that room.

To get the best results out of Trueplay, make sure you're sitting or standing in the area of the room where your speakers will be listened to the most, and hold your device at eye-level. This way, Trueplay can make adjustments based on that position, and will provide EQ settings congruent with where your system's listeners will be experiencing its sound the most.

  1. Open the Sonos app.
    Sonos icon
  2. Tap the More tab.
