"USB Device Not Recognized"

If your computer is giving you this message, it’s trying to tell you that it doesn’t understand what device you’ve plugged into its USB port. It’s likely that the driver needed to help the device communicate to your computer isn’t working correctly. This could happen with your USB Flash drive, external hard drive, USB equipped video camera or any USB device.

The problem could also stem from your USB hub, if you’re using one. It uses software drivers as well.

So what’s the exact cause and answer to your problem? It’s impossible to say for certain without taking a look at your computer. So if you’re experiencing USB hub problems, or your USB device is not recognized, contact Support.com. One of our Personal Technology Experts™ will scan your computer, locate the problem and install the right driver.

Better yet, all of this happens right over your broadband Internet connection. So you won’t have to leave your home, or disconnect your computer and drag it out to some service center. Support.com stands ready to help you right now. We’re always here—24/7, 365 days a year.

How Do You Copy Files to a USB Flash drive?

When you connect your USB Flash drive to your computer’s USB port, a window should pop up listing the contents of your drive. You can then drag and drop files into your USB drive, which is sometimes called a “thumb drive” because it’s roughly the size of your average thumb.

If you’re having difficulty seeing this window, or you can’t find your USB drive listed in your computer, contact us. As we stated earlier, it may not be an oversight on your part. It could be a driver issue.

No matter what the problem is—from needing to recover data from a USB hard drive to a USB Flash drive that won’t work—Support.com can help.
