Should You Install Windows XP or Windows 7 on a New Computer?
To many people, Windows XP is now like an old friend that you’ve known for years. You’re comfortable with it, and have come to depend on its familiarity since 2001. Meanwhile, Windows 7 is the new person in the neighborhood. You might have heard good things about it, but you have yet to have a proper introduction. So the question remains, which one should you go for on a new computer?
Keep in mind, however, that Microsoft plans to stop supporting Windows XP in 2014. This means that you’ll be free to keep using it after that date, but Microsoft will no longer provide patches and updates for its security. This would not be the case with Windows 7, which the company would keep supporting past that date.
At Support.com, we feel it’s important to provide you with information like this. We want you to be comfortable with technology. We strive to make your experience with computers and peripherals as trouble-free as possible. Part of this includes providing helpful advice on our blog, which you can visit here.
And don’t worry, everything is written in plain English—no “computerese.”
Can You Choose to Install XP over Windows Vista?
It depends upon the licensing deal offered when you purchased your computer. Some laptop manufacturers allowed purchasers to downgrade Vista to XP without purchasing an extra license.
Unless this deal was offered to you, you will not be able to automatically downgrade to XP without repurchasing your operating system. If you are thinking about doing this, please keep the date we mentioned above in mind.
