Simple Steps To Hook Up Your Netgear Router
The following steps will assist you with the hook up of your Netgear Router:- Turn off computer and cable modem, and remove the battery backup to the modem if it has one.
- Remove any cables connecting the modem to the computer.
- Connect modem to cable service entry point.
- Connect the yellow Ethernet cord from the router's Internet port to an Ethernet port on the modem - one end of an Ethernet cable goes to the modem and the other end into the isolated port on the router. The isolated port is yellow or slightly set apart from the rest of the router ports.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from computer's LAN port to one of the other LAN ports (also uses Ethernet connection tips) on router - the router does not need to be close to the computer, it can be located anywhere where it can be directly corded to the computer and away from magnetic fields or other wireless equipment.
- Plug modem and router's power adaptors into a surge protected power supply (recommend a UPS – Uninterruptible Power Supply against power spikes AND drops).
- First, power on the modem, and plug the modem battery backup back if it has one.
- Wait 1-2 minutes for the modem to complete its power cycle.
- Once the modem lights indicate it is on and it is connected to the Internet Service Provider, then power on router.
- The router's power lights should light up in steady lights once router has successfully booted.
- Now power on the computer, and once the computer has booted, the LAN port light on the Router to which the computer has been connected should now be lit.
